CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE Dietary patterns and cardiovascular disease mortality in Japan: a prospective cohort study

چکیده
Results During 7 years of follow-up, 801 participants died of CVD. Factor analysis (principal component) based on a validated food frequency questionnaire identified three dietary patterns: (i) a Japanese dietary pattern highly correlated with soybean products, fish, seaweeds, vegetables, fruits and green tea, (ii) an ‘animal food’ dietary pattern and (iii) a high-dairy, high-fruit-and-vegetable, low-alcohol (DFA) dietary pattern. The Japanese dietary pattern was related to high sodium intake and high prevalence of hypertension. After adjustment for potential confounders, the Japanese dietary pattern score was associated with a lower risk of CVD mortality (hazard ratio of the highest quartile vs the lowest, 0.73; 95% confidence interval: 0.59–0.90; P for trend1⁄4 0.003). The ‘animal food’ dietary pattern was associated with an increased risk of CVD, but the DFA dietary pattern was not.

Association of Dietary Fat Pattern and Incidence of Cardiovascular Disease, Hypertension and Chronic Kidney Disease: Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study
Introduction: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), hypertension (HTN) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are chronic conditions of recent decades, and dietary intakes play an important role in their prevention. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between dietary fat pattern and incidence of these conditions. Materials and Methods: Participants of the third phase (2006-2008) of the T...
متن کاملDietary patterns and all-cause, cancer, and cardiovascular disease mortality in Japanese men and women: The Japan public health center-based prospective study
OBJECTIVE A meta-analysis showed an inverse association of a prudent/healthy dietary pattern with all-cause mortality and no association of a western/unhealthy dietary pattern. However, the association of distinctive dietary patterns of Japanese population with mortality remains unclear. We prospectively investigated the association between dietary patterns and all-cause, cancer, and cardiovasc...
متن کاملDietary folate and vitamin b6 and B12 intake in relation to mortality from cardiovascular diseases: Japan collaborative cohort study.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The association of dietary folate and B vitamin intakes with risk of cardiovascular disease is controversial, and the evidence in Asian populations is limited. METHODS A total of 23 119 men and 35 611 women, age 40 to 79 years, completed a food frequency questionnaire in the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study. During the median 14-year follow-up, there were 986 deaths fro...
متن کاملDietary calcium intake and mortality risk from cardiovascular disease and all causes: a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies
BACKGROUND Considerable controversy exists regarding the association between dietary calcium intake and risk of mortality from cardiovascular disease and all causes. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies to examine the controversy. METHODS We identified relevant studies by searching MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases between 1 September 2013 an...
متن کاملDietary intakes of antioxidant vitamins and mortality from cardiovascular disease: the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study (JACC) study.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Only a few reports have dealt with the association of antioxidant vitamin intakes with mortality or morbidity from cardiovascular disease in Asia. We investigated the relation of dietary vitamins A, E, and C intake with mortality from cardiovascular disease for Japanese men and women. METHODS The subjects were 23,119 men and 35 611 women aged 40 to 79 years without a hi...
